After working on an international project, Armindo Araújo returned to the Portuguese Rally Championship in 2018 to become the first driver to win it five times. This triumph is yet another milestone in the career of a driver who won the domestic championship four times in a row from 2003 to 2006, in addition to two production world championships in 2009 and 2010.
In the aftermath of his 2018 win, and with preparations for the start of the 2019 season already underway, Palmela International Go Kart Track hosted an experience that enabled guests to be co-drivers in the race car and to exchange ideas with the five-time champion. Without much ado, Armindo Araújo recalled his championship wins and laid the foundations for this season: "We need to believe it´s possible, while working to create the conditions for success in the future". And one major step towards the defence of his title has been taken: Galp has confirmed the renewal of its sponsorship of the Portuguese driver.
The Serras de Fafe rally gets the 2019 underway on 22 February and Armindo Araújo wants to ensure history repeats itself.
