Electric vehicles at the heart of sustainability

Brice Fabry, director of Zero Emissions and Ecosystems Strategy at Nissan Europe, talks to Energiser about smart mobility

“The future of the automobile industry will be extremely challenging”, begins Nissan director, Brice Fabry, emphasising that changing people´s mentalities isn´t easy, but this is what we are dealing with when addressing sustainable mobility. Moreover, “we need to make choices right now, thinking about both ourselves and future generations”, adds the specialist, who regards Portugal as a leading innovator in this field.

The Japanese manufacturer´s strategy was put into practice ten years ago and the organisation has been developing new smart mobility technologies and a series of comprehensive solutions ever since, known as the “Nissan Electric Ecosystem”, including charging at home or in public areas, and an entire range of electric vehicles. This is the case of “Leaf”, a totally electric model for which Portugal was the tenth biggest market at global level.

The Japanese brand plans to invest two million euros in the installation of 100 rapid charging stations by the end of 2020

With regard to charging, according to the CEO of Nissan Portugal, António Melica, the Japanese brand plans to invest two million euros in the installation of 100 rapid charging stations by the end of 2020 through partnerships, the first of which is involves Galp for the installation of the first 20 stations. “All we want” – declares Brice Fabry – “is to have a charging solution where people live and not just at home, but also at work, at fuel stations, at the supermarket…”.

The brand´s vision is to place electric vehicles at the heart of sustainability and to distribute energy systems, and hence, “we are extremely satisfied with Galp´s involvement in this project”, concludes the strategist who is in no doubt that the path to a better world is zero-emission mobility.
