“The Future is Happening Here” was the slogan of the 2019 Portugal Smart Cities Summit, held in Lisbon de from May 21 to 23, and which brought together local authorities, companies and universities to discuss the major challenges facing cities both today and in the future.The initiative, in which Galp participated on the “Smart Mobility” panel, was synonymous with innovation, mobility and sustainability, in addition to creating new business opportunities.The first day was dedicated to exalting several individuals and entities that registered a noteworthy performance within the scope of sustainability in 2018, including the municipality of Loures, which was awarded the “Galp Most Sustainable Municipality” prize, which acknowledges efforts to prioritise sustainability.
According to Joana Garoupa, Global Head of Brand & Communications, this prize is focused on the three specific aspects “most essential to achieving the transformation to smart cities: renewable generation, energy efficiency and smart mobility."
In the face of a progressively more digital, interconnected society with the potential to develop new, more sustainable and efficient lifestyles, Galp, committed to energy transition and a more innovative and integrated world, has been working towards an increasingly dynamic future for Portuguese citizens.At the same time, we are exploring new areas of business with a view to becoming a key player in the market, as according to Pedro Dias, Head of Strategy and Investor Relations, “cities are set to play a major role with regard to energy mobility solutions”.
