The Land of Hope movement arose from the partnership entered into between ANEFA (National Association of Forestry, Agriculture and Environment Companies) and Galp with the aim of reforesting the areas worst affected by the wildfires of recent years.
The starting point for a series of planned and future reforesting activities involved 600 volunteers, among employees from both entities, their partners and family members from all over the country, who set to work in the Açor hills in the central region of Portugal. The group “committed to the cause”, rolled up their sleeves and planted 7,500 trees (oak and chestnut) on around eight hectares of land.
This movement was financed by Galp, which acquired 500,000 trees to reforest areas of land equivalent in size to over 600 football pitches and helped to implement a platform that is enabling ANEFA to streamline the volunteer initiatives geared to helping the scorched areas to start afresh.
A total of 68,700 trees have been planted to date, which has contributed to ensuring Portugal´ s renaissance is a lot greener.
