Good sustainable practices acknowledged

Galp, for the third year running, leads the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Indices, indicators designed to highlight the best corporate practices in relation to environmental, social and governance criteria

Galp is a company that has been paving a path of growth focused on good governance practices throughout its strategy, culture and values. In addition to being committed to guaranteeing the safety and protection of its own personnel and that of the communities in which it operates, the environment and its assets, the organisation also promotes innovation and the development of efficient and sustainable solutions in its operations and provides its clients with integrated services. A commitment that has been acknowledged internationally for several years, more specifically by the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI).

2020 was no exception. For the third year in a row, and according to the criteria of this index, Galp was once again ranked the most sustainable company in Europe and the third best in the world in its sector. In addition to maintaining the overall score achieved in the previous edition of this ranking – or in other words, the best ever in the nine years the company has been ranked by these indices - Galp also managed to raise its percentile score to 97 points. More specifically, we were ranked top by DJSI Europe among our peers assessed in the Oil & Gas Upstream & Integrated sector, and third by DJSI World among the 59 companies analysed. This leading position is also reflected in the “Materiality”, “Environmental Reporting”, “Operational Eco-efficiency”, “Climate Strategy”, "Water Related Risks", "Social Reporting" and "Human Capital Development" categories.

This distinction, emphasises Galp CEO Carlos Gomes da Silva, “illustrates the company´s firm commitment to the best practices on which the creation of sustainable value for our stakeholders is based. The recognition of DJSI underlines the paramount importance of these practices in our activities”.

In addition to this recognition by DJSI, Galp consolidated its triple-A (AAA) MSCI ESG rating in 2020 and held its place in the top-5 of the 50 integrated Oil & Gas companies evaluated by Sustainalytics, two of the most prestigious global reference entities dedicated to the assessment of corporate sustainability practices.
