My home on the water

After a year of adaptations and preparations, the Domum has returned to the water. A test on the yacht that is going to be Rute Gonçalves’ family’s home for two years

There’s a sense of nervousness in the air, and it’s obvious why. After months of work and many sleepless nights, Rute Gonçalves and her husband, João Monarca, are preparing to launch the yacht they’ve been working on this past year and on which they intend to travel around the world. However, the signs point to everything going to plan: the wind is favourable, it’s a sunny day and the temperature is more akin to spring than winter.

It is with particular pride and a special twinkle in their eyes that the pair of yachtsmen have once again rolled up their sleeves for what is one of Domum’s most demanding tests before setting off for the Mediterranean. Everything is ready at Algés marina in Lisbon, where the photojournalist Rodrigo Cabrita is on hand to register one of the family’s much-anticipated moments.
