Ultra-fast energy

Galp and the municipality of Oeiras have opened an ultra-fast charging point in Alges, the first in Portugal designed to fully charge an electric vehicle in just 20 minutes

The historic moment, which took place in Alges, saw the opening of the first ultra-fast electric vehicle charger in a public place. Similar to the events of ten years ago, when Oeiras became the first municipality in Portugal to provide fast charging stations. Both then and now, “always in partnership with Galp”, underlines André Cardoso, B2C director at Galp. “Our aim is to provide the country´s main transit routes with ultra-fast charging stations and this is the first step in the process” he revealed.

The Avenida Combatentes da Grande Guerra service station was the first of 59 new charging points (23 of which are of the Galp Electric brand) to be put into operation in Oeiras in the near future, “in order to meet the needs of the entire municipality”, as the Mayor, Isaltino Morais, stressed on the occasion. At the national level, Galp Electric will have 800 charging points by the end of this year and more than 1,000 by the end of 2021.

The new ultra-fast charging points enable you to charge a vehicle with a range of 200 kilometers in around 14 minutes. When fully operational, they will produce enough energy to travel 80,000 kilometers a day, roughly the equivalent of two trips around the world, but with the advantage of saving six tons of fossil fuel, thereby preventing the emission of 14 tons of carbon into the atmosphere.

The new charger features 160 kW of power and is capable of providing vehicles with a range of 200 kilometers and greater power in just 14 minutes
