SingularityU: Exponential technologies and the future

Nathaniel Calhoun is the guest on the 9th episode of the documentary programme “Inspiring the Future – SingularityU Portugal”

Nathaniel Calhoun is an expert in the fields of Education, Poverty and Prosperity. An entrepreneur, he addresses strategies capable of helping meet some of the biggest challenges facing society today.

The director of the Singularity Portugal community Global Grand Challenges initiative believes that exponential technologies need to be well implemented for the sake of a better future. Otherwise, the technologies themselves could be responsible for promoting inequality, poverty, violence and environmental damage.

An expert in the ethical and strategical implications of exponential technologies, Nathaniel has held senior positions in Silicon Valley over the last 20 years, and has found himself in extremely hostile environments such as post-conflict nations and regions destabilised by food insecurity.

As a consultant to a number of governments, development banks and international organisations, the director of Global Grand Challenges helps design and promote innovations and policies that change the way in which markets work.
