SingularityU: have we ever managed to block a technology?

It´s important to talk about technologies and their consequences for humanity. Manuel Tânger gives us his views on both this issue and entrepreneurism in Portugal in the 11th episode of “Inspiring the Future”.

The superiority of artificial intelligence over human intelligence is, as far as Manuel Tânger is concerned, a distant and still unpredictable apocalyptic scenario. It is, however, a real concern, so much so that initiatives geared to monitoring and controlling the evolution of the phenomenon already exist. But have we ever managed to block a technology? “Extremely rarely… and we probably won´t manage to do it with artificial intelligence either,” says the co-founder and Director of Innovation at Beta-1, who believes we are at an important time in history, where studying the consequences of the different technologies in the greatest possible depth will enable us to direct their course: “Technologies aren´t good or bad, or even neutral, they depend on the manner in which we intend to use them. We need to think about this and be present, and we can´t use them flippantly”.

The 11th guest on the programme "Inspiring the Future - Singularity Portugal" is a graduate in physics and a specialist in innovation, business models and Design Thinking and Lean Startup, and is interested in the areas of consultancy, marketing and behavioural change at major organisations. He also talks about entrepreneurism in this episode. In his opinion, Portugal is an extremely attractive hub for startups, and already has a number of such highly valued concerns: “There are an increasing number of startups that grow incredibly quickly and achieve fantastic unicorn status. They are perfect examples for aspiring entrepreneurs and for the ambition of others who want to do business”.
