Roll up your sleeves and dream big

Issufo Mutuala, 38 years old, is Operations Manager at Porto da Beira in Mozambique. Throughout his career he has learned how to overcome challenges

It is inspiring to listen to Issufo Mutuala talk about his life with a contagious spark in his eyes. He lived through the 1976-1992 civil war in Mozambique and managed to turn the difficult times he lived through into strength for studying, learning and thriving. Today, he is the Operations Manager at Porto da Beira, in the Sofala province, where he manages the Operations Park. “I was only 23 when I took on this role, and it was challenging to manage older people”, which is why he decided to go back to studying. “We needed to restructure the way we planned our activities at Galp. My degree combined environmental management, planning and community development, and I learned to turn tasks which seemed complex to me into easy everyday situations.” Today he is proud to be helping his country develop and, through Galp Foundation, he is involved in several social responsibility projects to support communities. Issufo felt he had a duty to share his example. That is why he has been organising motivational talks for young people for the last three years. “It’s work I started doing when I realised I could motivate young people who lacked other references. It started with four young people, but today there are many more who attend our talks twice a week. I talk about social and leadership situations, I give financial advice and anything they need to help them thrive”, he explains.

Energisers – an exhibition about people – portrays Galp employees based in Portugal, Spain, Mozambique and Brazil who ensure the necessary energy to guarantee the world does not stop.
The result of a partnership with VISÃO magazine, this photo report created by photographers Arlindo Camacho (Portugal), Enric Vives-Rubio (Spain), Mauro Vombe (Mozambique) and Jardiel Carvalho (Brazil) shows us, through a unique perspective, who these people really are beyond their professional role. How they spend their days, where they come from, how they live, what they did to get where they are and what dreams they still wish to fulfil.
